Diving in Raja Ampat with Agusta Eco Resort

Diving in Raja Ampat means exploring vibrant reefs, walls, pinnacles, and a variety of marine environments, accompanied by the experienced team at Agusta Eco Resort’s Diving Center.

The resort features its own on-site Diving Center. Each day, dive sites are selected according to weather and sea conditions to ensure the best possible diving experience throughout your stay.

The morning briefing takes place at 7:30 AM at the Diving Center. On the afternoon of arrival, divers are invited to visit the center to prepare their personal dive basket and check their equipment. Guests who do not have their own diving gear can rent equipment directly from the Diving Center.

To participate in diving activities, the following are required:

  • valid diving certification;
  • diving insurance;
  • dive computer.

The use of gloves while diving is not permitted.

Snorkeling in Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat can also be experienced from the surface. Snorkeling allows you to explore vibrant reefs, colorful corals, and marine life without the need for a diving certification.

At Agusta Eco Resort, guests can snorkel around the island or join organized half-day or full-day snorkeling trips. It is an ideal activity for non-diving companions, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to discover the underwater beauty of Raja Ampat without scuba diving.

SSI Diving Courses in Raja Ampat

Agusta Eco Resort’s Diving Center offers SSI courses for different experience levels, from entry-level scuba diving certifications to Advanced and Specialty courses, as well as professional-level training.

The SSI Open Water Diver course is the first step into the world of scuba diving as an independent certified diver. It is designed for beginners who want to learn how to dive safely and comfortably while developing the essential knowledge and skills needed to explore the underwater world.

The course normally takes approximately 3 days and consists of three main phases:

  • digital theory, completed online at your own pace, covering the fundamentals of diving, equipment, safety, and the underwater environment;
  • practical sessions in a swimming pool or confined water, designed to help you become comfortable with scuba equipment and breathing underwater;
  • 4 open-water dives in the ocean with an instructor, where you will put everything you have learned into practice.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the SSI Open Water Diver certification, allowing you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters with a certified dive buddy.

The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course is designed for certified divers who want to gain more experience, improve their safety and confidence underwater, and explore different types of diving.

The program generally includes 5 dives, each focusing on a specific aspect of diving. Deep Diving and Navigation are included in the program, while the remaining dives can be selected from compatible specialties such as Perfect Buoyancy, Waves, Tides & Currents, Night Diving, Photo & Video, and other SSI Specialty programs.

Each dive includes a theoretical briefing followed by practical training in the water. The course is normally completed in approximately 2 days.

Upon completion of the program, you will receive the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification, recognizing the experience gained across different types of diving.

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty is one of the most popular courses among divers and teaches you how to safely use breathing gas mixtures with a higher oxygen percentage than standard air.

During the course, you will learn about the benefits and limitations of Enriched Air Nitrox, how to analyze the oxygen content of your cylinder, set your dive computer correctly, calculate the Maximum Operating Depth (MOD), understand oxygen exposure limits, and follow safe procedures for handling Nitrox mixtures.

Participants also learn how to properly analyze and identify their own cylinder before each dive.

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox course can generally be completed in half a day or one full day and is primarily theory-based.

The SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course develops the skills needed to protect yourself and other divers by recognizing signs of stress and potential emergency situations at an early stage.

The training teaches you how to prevent accidents, manage challenging situations, and apply practical rescue and emergency assistance techniques.

The program combines theoretical training, practical pool sessions, and open-water exercises.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue Specialty certification.

The SSI Divemaster course is your gateway to the professional world of scuba diving, combining practical dive-guiding experience with the theoretical knowledge covered in Science of Diving.

The program develops your diving skills to demonstration quality, teaches you how to guide groups of certified divers, and provides in-depth knowledge of subjects such as dive physics, physiology, and decompression theory.

Training includes hands-on experience, assisting with real diving courses, and participating in rescue scenarios, with the aim of developing confidence, management skills, and leadership underwater.

The SSI Divemaster course combines the Dive Guide program with the Science of Diving Specialty. After completing 60 logged dives, you can achieve the professional status established within the SSI training pathway.

Agusta Eco Resort is an SSI Instructor Training Center in Raja Ampat and follows the SSI digital training roadmap to provide up-to-date education aligned with the organization’s training standards.

Skills are taught exactly as they should be demonstrated during real diving courses: in the correct underwater position rather than kneeling on the bottom, with the goal of preparing future instructors to teach with confidence, precision, and safety.
